Sons of Aurelius - S/T Debut

If the album art doesn't instantly make you want to listen to this, you probably had a lobotomy in one of the more significant parts of your right brain at one point or another in your life. I know that over the past couple of years the whole brutal intricate death metal trend has gotten a little out of hand with horrible bands sprouting up everywhere into a field of shit flowers, but among all the cookie cutting, Son of Aurelius is like the giant beanstalk in the middle of the sea of shit taking you and your mind to a better place. Vocals are done to perfection, and in an array of styles, there isnt just one growling sound, or one screaming sound, the style are split up into many sub-styles. All instrumentation is flawless, as well as mixing. No one track drowns any other out. Every song is like a new story, in which the band redefines their style slightly. Intricate scale runs + whammy dives + orchestration + middle of song timing changes = Son of Aurelius. I believe that this band is a cut above and will be doing great things in 2010 and the years to come.

Aaskereia - Mit Raben und Wolfen

A friend burned a cd for me in high school, the first half was G-unit, and only after I put it into Itunes did I realize that this release, by Aaskereia, was so carefully hidden at the end. Aaskereia performs Dark Winter Forest black metal with beautiful interludes and wailing vocals.
